Tell
us why you decided to go into your chosen field of study, and how
your education reinforced your desire to be a Systems
Administrator. How do these factors translate into
benefits for us should we desire to hire you?
There
are a few reasons that inspired me to get my degree in Computer
Information Systems. As a young child growing up in a huge world with
endless opportunities I always had a passion for technology and the
security and protection of people and their valuables. Even at a
young age I enjoyed interacting with computers. To this day I
remember when my family got their first computer. It was in 1997 when
we went to the Gateway store and brought the huge white brick
computer back when I was 7.
My parents always told me I was in the
middle of everything trying to learn and take charge of how to
install the programs. In high school I always enjoyed taking business
and computer application classes, and designing simple websites and
doing basic programming all came very easy to me. I was fortunate to
become a Certified Microsoft Office Specialist by my junior year of
high school, an accomplishment which I was very proud of.
As an
undergrad at Georgia Tech University I believe that the classes I
have taken for my degree were very applicable to concepts and
activities that I can bring to this job. My Computer Tools for
Business class helped me to interact with computers and computer
systems, set up functions, and enter data and then process
information. The Principles of Information Systems class helped me to
observe and obtain information from different sources. My
Introduction to Problem Solving and Programming class has helped to
give me a solid foundation on basic programming principles. As an
undergrad I am going to run for a leadership position in the
organization of AITP which is the Association of Information
Technology Professionals. I am a well-rounded individual who both
works hard in the work place and in extracurricular activities. I
know that I am a team player because I played intramural basketball
and softball in my college years. I also participate in a Women’s
Leadership Spokesman’s Club put on by my church which I feel is
helping to improve my public speaking skills.
Although
I have not had any jobs related to my career choice at this point in
time I have had work experience that I believe has taught me valuable
lessons. I worked for a professional landscape company for a few
summers. In that time I learned valuable speaking skills when
consulting with clients about their landscape architect. I learned to
clarify the points of interest that the clients would desire. Over
these past summers I did use my hands, machinery and tools a great
deal which also taught me to work hard and how to work well as a
team. One very important concept I learned and hold important in my
work ethics is the importance of finishing projects on time, and how
crucial it is to listen to directions. When you don’t finish your
assigned projects or don’t listen to directions you cost work time,
money, and the respect of the clients. And as an employee I don’t
find this acceptable.
I know
that my selected career path is the place where I am supposed to be.
I’ve enjoyed every class I have taken at Georgia Tech University
that was towards my major in Computer Information Systems. I do
believe that if I have the privilege to come on board with this
company I can be a positive influence and an asset to the team.
