Ivy League

Ivy Leagues are known for being the best of the best universities. They are the wealthiest and smartest of students and it is a privilege to be a part of the Ivy League and a club that no members take for granted. Being a part of the Ivy League represents your hard work, intelligence, prestige, honor, and discipline.
An athletic conference is what officially separates these eight universities.
College Cranium has worked to review and establish an accurate insight of all eight Ivy League schools, as well as other prestigious schools.
Graduating from an Ivy League school gives you a whole network of alumni. It also places you at an advantage to apply for the prestigious and highly competitive Rhodes Scholarship. The Ivy League Colleges have some of the lowest acceptance rates in the nation. Students who attend prepare their entire life for an opportunity to attend these schools. Even extreme preparation, perfect grades- in school and on nationally standardize tests- won't guarantee acceptance. Their is always an aspect of knowing the right people. Ivy League alumni prime and prepare their children for life at a Ivy League school. Great pride, honor, and respect are found in the elite collegiate of the Ivy League.
The respect for Ivy League grads comes from the fact that from the beginning of their academic career they were focused and disciplined enough to succeed above and beyond the average student. Their lifestyle is one that reflects true dedication and intelligence. These 8 schools are the oldest and most competitive universities in the country with buildings that are often actually covered in ivy, and rich histories often rooted in honor, legends, traditions, and culture. Their alumni go on to become presidents, CEO's, inventors, or quickly achieve financial independence and/ or excellence.

  3. Cornell University
  4. Dartmouth College
  5. Harvard University
  6. University of Pennsylvania
  7. Princeton University
  8. Yale University

Admissions to these eight wonderful schools gets more competitive each year. Many highly qualified students are put on the waiting list or simply rejected. One factor that many Ivy League students agree on is the importance of knowing an alumni- either in your family or as a close friend who can put it a solid recommendation. When applying to these schools it is becoming apparent it's not what you know, but who you know.
Those qualified for attending these historic schools are very similiar. They have no criminal history, they did exceptionally well in high school (usually private), and they have distinguished themselves from the rest of the masses either by playing varsity sports or excelling at a hobby.

Keep in mind that the Ivy League began and continues to be an athletic division for 8 excellent colleges in northeast USA but there is much more to the style and swag of their students.
Does an Ivy League degree automatically guarantee that the graduate will find employment during these trying economic times? The truth about Ivy League degrees is that success will depend on the individual student. However, having the degree, that is just a piece of paper, which verifies your accomplishment of graduating from one of the eight ivy league colleges is a excellent way to get your foot in the door and an employment chance.
While the network of Ivy League alumni in high ranking positions may open doors for fellow Ivy League grads, and ambitious student can achieve the same opportunity from a state or local college.
There exists a rivalry among these historic colleges but the honor and tradition have remained steadfast. There are also excellent higher learning schools which are not in the Ivy League, and also have an extensive alumni network for their graduates to use to their advantage.
The acceptance rates for Ivy League schools is ridiculously competitive. To get into the school a student must start overachieving at a very early age. Their grade point average and standardized test scores must be incredibly above average, and they also need an extracurricular activity to separate them from the other 97% of students who will get rejected. These schools want the future leaders of the world. Put yourself in positions that demonstrate intellect as well as leadership. Debate team and team captains are great ways of demonstrating the worth a student will be to a school.
Mental ability and intellectual capacity is only half of the battle to get accepted into an Ivy League school. Financial success, often something that a young adult cannot control, is important. The parents of the student often must be responsible for paying tuition or help pave the way to acceptance by being an alumni themselves.
What actually goes on at Ivy League schools is often much different than what the public imagines. However, these eight schools have created a style, often referred to as prep, and were celebrating their achievements by dressing in a manner that reflected their financial well-being as early as the 1930's. With such history and deep-rooted tradition, it's hard to imagine other colleges who are decades younger than those college northeastern colleges to come before them.
Personal success is ultimately the decision of the student. Hard-work and avid studying, combined with motivation and natural intellect, can assure a student happiness in life. Moral guidelines and ethical standards are developed throughout adulthood and are also a key to success. There are disadvantages to an Ivy League education, including, but not limited to the inflated egos and bloated self worth felt by many students and alumni. There is also the issue of the costs and expenses that must be paid to receive a diploma from the prestigious Ivy League.
Many other college students find the traditions of Ivy League schools alien and cannot understand them because they attended a "non-ivy" school. The ivy league experience is unique and unlike any other colleges. However, when deciding what college or university to apply to factor in your personality and financing capabilities. There are various student loans, grants, and scholarships available to those who may meet the standards of acceptance into an Ivy League school. By aiming for the best colleges in the nation, a student may find himself with multiple scholarships and monetary benefits to a state college.
